Who has not “decorated” the sidewalk with ART,from hopscotch,to flowers and of course your name it is a childhood tradition.
These Artists take it to a whole new level!
It was a beautiful early spring day here, and I thought I would take in the sidewalk art fest and bring my friends along. The event was held at a “shopping village” that is normally not packed, but today it was, and my heart went out to these artist on their knees in 80 degree weather (you can see the shadows of the tents some put over the sidewalk for shade) with people, strollers, dogs, and kids milling about.
Notice how this artist put down her grid. We were taught that in art school and I was thinking, why not use it on the side walk! Some did it in chalk,I wonder how she is going to deal with those blank lines when she pulls up the tape? Sadly her tent cast a big shadow on her work, but she has an amazing parrot starting at the top. Do you see the eye?
I did take note at the ENORMOUS amount of chalk pastels they had on hand. Look closely at the top of her work, she has some colors divided up already, and several boxes ready to go.
The common question seemed to be “how do you work on the ground?” I was thinking by the looks of the work…quite well!
How amazing is this work!
If I had to pick, this was my fav. Look at the expression on the girls face! Below right is the picture she is creating, she is also holding it in her hand and working on the background. The note said it would take about 24 hours to complete.
It is amazing how they could stay focused with all those people walking by,making comments and asking questions. Next time you hand off some sidewalk chalk to a budding artist…this could be in their future!
