I like to visit our local big box home repair store when I am out and about,ya never know when a plant in the mark down rack will need me!
I found myself near the store with a few minutes before the post office opened,so in I went.
Slowly I viewed, touched, and examined the marked down plants, nothing really called out to me.
This is the time of year, when our plants reflect our feelings. Spent Flowers,Dry,worn out, bent over, and trying to survive the last blast of Summer.
I wondered over to the veggies and Herbs, again nothing was singing the right song…and then…
I looked down at the Parsley
The Parsley had no leaves! Then I looked at the plants in the Second row,the third and so on…it was covered in caterpillars,oh my Butterflies!!!
I went to the clerk, interrupting her meeting,…look at these, are they going to get killed. She looked at me like a crazy woman “Ah,the vender will take these because they have no leaves, what he will do with them I don’t know” she smiled and returned to her meeting…she was very nice, because looking back I must have looked like a nut!
“Ok,then I will buy them” I announced to nobody,”I won’t be able to sleep tonight thinking they would be killed”
Carefully I carried them to car. Did I mention that the plants had at least 12 that I could find happily munching along, not realizing it was moving day!
I left a window open abit for air,did my shipping and got my little friends home!
I left the plants in the plastic tray, thinking the leaves were closer and easier to access.
I get these sweet little guys in my own garden but never such a huge gathering at one time,in the same spot!
I called Mr Beets and said well I “had” to bring them home, long silent pause,”I knew THEY would be killed”,longer more silent pause, the voice on the phone says “how many “I reply “I think 12” I heard something fall…was that the phone…”Caterpillars, they were going to get killed!’
“oh!”,Mr Beets, said with relief in his voice! “I was thinking kittens, elephants, birds…good to know I was wrong!”
Reflecting on my new Herb garden,I thought about the company that grew the Parsley, they must not use pesticides or these little cuties would have never made it! Good to know!
I can’t wait to see these guys as butterflies dancing about the garden, while adorning our meals with a pinch of Parsley!
